Grand Central, now Google Voice!

I recently received my upgrade from Grand Central to Google Voice, and i must say, its stinking rad. If neither of these services are ringing a bell, then listen up. Grand Central, now

Google Voice is a free service that offers you a unified phone number that can ring multiple lines such as your office, cell, or home simultaneously. Which if you are on the go like me, then you will love Google for their latest sensation. Some of the new features are super hot like its ability to transcribe messages and have them routed to your favorite email client or even blast a text to your mobile device. The web in-box UI imitates your gmail experience,so you will be up and running in no time. As the calls come in, you can store them indefinitely which is pretty cool and they are completely searchable. If you decide you want to call someone back, you can do so from right inside the web interface. Simply click a button and Google Voice automates the rest based on your preferences.

Google Voice also has some other nifty features like “Listen-In” which allows you to screen the call prior to accepting. Some of the other big ones are: Custom greetings, call blocking, call me widget, and mobile access. While not confirmed, rumor has it they are looking at adding the ability to port numbers in the near future. Google Voice is not yet open to the public, however i would highly recommend heading over to the site and get your name on the waiting list. It will be worth the wait. I promise!

This thing is awesome, there is just one thing that will suck. If you have an iPhone then you are going to run into troubles, as they will not allow Google Voice to function with the phone. Looks like AT&T are pulling the strings on that.

I really hope they open the iPhone to other carriers one day. Would love to see AT&T take a face plant.

Wow! What a site. You have a real knack for making a blog readable and easy on the eyes. Some sites look like train wrecks, but not this one - it's a pleasure to read. I find Voice over IP very interesting. I have learned a lot in implementing a small VoIP network at home, and am thinking of starting VoIP business in my area. There are a number of small businesses in my region that would benefit from it greatly.

Purple, Rock, Scissors is where I work and I play. I am courageous, a risk-taker, a skeptic, a perfectionist; I have a lot to say but rarely say it. I truly believe timing is everything. I am learning to be a father. (I love you, Riley.) I am loved by, and in love with, my wife. I am an interface designer at heart, but would say i have an unnatural obsession and excitement with web standards and coding in general. A few things I like... trying to scream like Underoath, Chipotle, collecting vinyl toys, Diggnation, Northland Church, ideas with purpose, going to shows, shooting photos, how the drums sound on a rock-n-roll record, trips to the Apple store, espresso shots with friends, fall, being up for daybreak, fresh air, buying organic, the beach, and road trips with no plans.
